As doenças cardiovasculares seguem entre as principais causas de morte no mundo. Segundo a OMS, em 2022, 19,8 milhões de pessoas morreram em decorrência dessas enfermidades, sendo 85% por infarto ou AVC.
No Brasil, o Infarto Agudo do Miocárdio continua liderando as estatísticas. Apenas no primeiro semestre de 2025, o SUS registrou 1,6 milhão de atendimentos relacionados à doença. Em 2024, foram 2,9 milhões. No Rio Grande do Sul, as doenças isquêmicas causaram 26,1 mil internações e 6,9 mil mortes no último ano.
